SCI Vocational Evaluation
One of the first of a series of preliminary considerations in SCI vocational evaluation is who is conducting the assessment. The professional facilitator conducting the evaluation should be knowledgeable about assessment approaches and technology, know how to analyze jobs, understand job trends, and be aware of accommodations, workplace supports, and community resources related to employment. However, perhaps most importantly, the facilitator should understand the physical and psychosocial issues related to spinal cord injury, have a firm grasp on secondary complications and implications on vocational planning and ways to

After exploring many different sites and readings, just in the community that I go to school in, and a wonderful teacher of mine that is fully aware of the environmental issues that humans are creating, helped me perceive water in the world differently. Water is perceived in many different ways around the world by different people. In third world countries it’s a fight for water daily for many people in Sudan whereas if you were in America you could just turn on the tap and have access to clean drinking water whenever you want. I learned a lot from the book, A long walk to water, by Linda Sue Park. In Sudan water is a scares and dangerous resource if its not consumed properly. Unfortunately Salva heard good news that his father was alive, but very ill. His cousin, states, “Years of drinking contaminated water had left Mawien Dut's entire digestive system riddled with guinea worms (106).” In American we don’t have this problem, people don’t respect the value water, they figure it is an unlimited resource. Water revolves around life. Salva was more fortunate because he his father was very successful man. He owned man head of cattle and worked as the village judge. w…

There are a variety of opportunities for college graduates after graduation. Many students continue their education while others immediately head into the workforce. I have personally debated between the two ideas but after attending the AGLS career fair I have realized that what I decide will surely be the best decision for me. The career fair provided an abundance of information and help from countless of individuals. Upon entering the fair I felt a bit overwhelmed due to the large number of companies participating. I slowly walked around and admired the presentations. As I continued to walk I came across a company that specialized in commercial transportation. Rush enterprises not only specializes in the selling of vehicles, but they as…

    1) I would use this assessment when working with clients whom have recently become disabled in some way or are experiencing a decreased ability in occupational performance. However, as mentioned in the video, this questionnaire could be difficult to give to a client with aphasia or with reading difficulties because the questionnaire would need to be administered in a different way. While changing the way that the questionnaire is administered would allow for it to be given to a wider range of clients, this then introduces biases. In addition, I would also use another outcome measure for a client who is not mentally alert enough to endure an assessment that can take 10-30 minutes and I would assure that the print was large enough for a client with visual impairments. Lastly, I do think that this assessment would be helpful for people who cannot verbally communicate.…

Sometimes, it is rocket science. As I looked through the externship opportunities for this January, one stood out: Greenbelt, Maryland, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, working with the systems engineering team for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). Among all the externships, this was the only one that matched my interests: aerospace, astronomy, and precision mechanical engineering. I’ve been following the progress of the JWST for years - I remember my dad handing me an issue of Popular Science and in it were the early plans to replace the Hubble. Since then, the JWST became one of NASA’s programs, along with the Space Race, Shuttle, and ISS, that inspired me to pursue mechanical and aerospace engineering.…

Below is a list of sample survey questions that one might use to evaluate course impact and learning gains in a course that incorporates HPC technology. The list includes questions about student background, the impact the course had on students’ interest and confidence in certain skills, and the effectiveness of various elements of the course in promoting student learning and engagement. These questions are meant as examples of the types of questions an instructor might want to ask. Course instructors should choose only those questions that are relevant to the activities in their course and modify the wording or add questions as needed. Additional suggestions for survey questions and how to analyze them may be found at the website for the Field-tested Learning Assessment Guide (FLAG) at http://newtraditions.chem.wisc.edu/FLAG.…

When doing this science interview I interviewed Katee she is in 4th grade, female, average, and her personality is happy, crazy, energetic, humorous and outgoing. She goes to school around here and in the elementary they split their time with social studies and science, so they do social studies for two nine weeks than they move onto science for the last two. She was a little discouraged that I asked her with no preparation of looking at pictures of a scientist ahead of time. Then she kept saying I stink at science and I said it does not matter just draw what you think a scientist looks like. I notice that she did not like science because it was too confusing. She did not understand what science was and that everything around her was made…

Science plays an important part in the National Curriculum and providing pupils with valuable knowledge, understanding and the skills to investigate scientific theories in their continued education. Science is about following scientific methods in order to analyse and hypothesise on the findings. Devereux (2000, p5) states “Science essentially is about understanding. It involves reaching possible conclusions, exploring relationships and explanations between ideas and events.” I will be teaching a class of twenty six students, aged between five and six about life processes and living things. However I will be focusing on a particular group of six children who are within the Level 1 parameters (Appendix 1) and aiming towards achieving Attainment Target 1 by the end of the year.
