A Humorous: A Short Story
I did ask for a microphone for today but was told that one wasn’t obtainable. So if you can’t hear me in the back, just know that the silence from the people in the front should re-assure you that you’re not missing out on anything.
What an exciting and happy day it is today. Earlier this afternoon we were trying to get all the beautiful bridesmaids and handsome groomsmen, and the lovely bride and dapper groom, ready for this day of festivity. I must admit though that Connor was surprisingly calm and ready for today, as if he knew what he was getting himself into. I may look stress-free right now but I was running around like crazy trying to make sure everything was set up just right. It was up to me to dress and prepare the groomsmen, and some of them are not easy to work with. Do you know how many times I had to explain to them that they couldn’t where Nike shoes with their suits? Connor on the other hand was awake and ready to go by 6 a.m. He was ready so fast that I even though that he slept

Amy Tan uses thoughtful laughter in her novel, The Joy Luck Club, to make a point through laughter or humor. Thoughtful laughter is effective because it grabs the attention of the reader and expresses a point, whether the reader knows it or not. One scene that provokes thoughtful laughter is in the chapter “Best Quality” while the family picks crabs to eat. When there was only two crabs left, Jing-Mei Woo tries to choose the crab with the missing leg, so her mom would have the better crab. On page 227 during the meal, Jing-Mei Woo says “That's the way Chinese mothers show they love their children, not through hugs and kisses but the stern offering of steamed dumplings, duck gizzards, and crab.” The Chinese mothers in The Joy Luck Club show affection to their daughters differently through non-obvious manners, such as showing off their daughters or giving…

The poetry was a fun activity, for it made me use my imagination to create titles and come up with a poem that would go with it. I must say some of the poems were a lot easier to write than the others. The transformation, welcome, acrostic, bio, ode, change, list, concrete, parody, and my favorite place poem were the easiest while the rest, not so much. The narrative poem was one of the hardest to write because I had a hard time following a certain foot and meter. The hokku was difficult was difficult because a certain line had to be a certain number of syllables. Also, it was hard to put a poem into a…

“Its kind of a funny story” is kind of a funny story. It's about 15-year-old Craig Gilner, who attends a prestigious college prep school that will set him on his way to the right college, the right law school, and the right job on Wall Street --- assuming he can bring up his 93 average. Studying for his school's entrance exam occupied Craig for months, and he was proud of his perfect score. Now, though, the school is a huge source of stress for him. He feels scattered and depressed, and even though he really likes the doctors who are helping him with his depression, he can't seem to make what he refers to as The Shift, a move back to normal life. When he calls a suicide hotline, they suggest that he go to the emergency room. From there, Craig spends five days on Six North, the adult psychiatric floor of his local hospital.…

Today is the day we are starting our trip. We have our wagon train ready to go now it's time to leave this crazy city. I have my oxen pulling my prairie schooner everything is going well until I bump into a fancy Conestoga wagon. The wagon wasn't to badly damaged, there was just a scratch, but the owner made me pay him sixty dollars. I almost knocked him out but I didn't want to start off our journey that way. Our first day we had plenty of problems including the little accident earlier we had to dump some of the tools we doubled up on because of an over load issue. I was mad as the dickens because I was looking forward to using those tools. They costed us a pretty penny as well. We made camp after 25 miles for the day. We made a horse shoe…

I saw her. In a miniscule moment. Her long brown hair so luscious and lively, cascading like a waterfall past her shoulders down to her torso. Curls bouncing as she turned. Her eyes were as green as a tropical forest. When caught in your direction, they not only saw your body but also your soul. So bewitching, as if she could lure you in with a single grimace. I was breathless. Her beauty was bewildering. I could not seem to comprehend how a woman could be so perfect. It seemed as though utopia did exist, though it had taken human form. I had never felt like that before, it was incredible, yet somewhat miserable… would I ever see this woman again? Was she real or was I going mad? I continued to promenade through the markets. The thought of this woman still trapped in my mind.…
