Japan and Saudi Arabia are the representatives of far too different worlds: Far East and Near East, respectfully. Nevertheless, the countries that are so diverse resemble each other, in terms of doing business, leisure time, and food.
Paradoxically, the culture and behavior of doing businesses are almost similar. Japan is country of peace and harmony that evolves unification of traditions and modernization. Due to its colorful and elaborate culture, Japan has established a particular model of hierarchy, honor and etiquette that is still reflected in many social and business practices today. Japanese businesspeople contribute to the avoidance of sell-assertion and individualism, the preservation of cordial relationship, regardless individual wishes and needs. Other fundamental factor of Japanese business culture is a notion of surname. Surname is a mark of a pride which gives definite social status to the owner. Moreover, in order to preserve reputation of spotless surname from critics or confrontations a businessperson could do whatever possible. In addition, the Japanese preach relationships based on trust and mutual feelings; consequently, they put this principle in business realm. In comparison with Japan’s style of doing business, Saudi Arabian’s values are alike. Nowadays, Saudi Arabia is the key player in the Middle East, the country that worships Islam and communal values. The special features that distinguish Islamic business practice from the others are found in culture. The values, experience and cultural background specify Islamic businesspeople as authoritative, conservative, and amicable. Because great respect and obedience to older people are the decisive behavioral components of Islamic family, the demonstration of the reverence for the authority is obligatory.
