A Dent in the Universe
“We’re here to make a dent in the universe” was a saying, and a mission of Steven P. Jobs that he had stated when he revealed his dream to the new world. So far he has succeeded. In our society today, any direction we look we can see something that was somehow done with the help from a computer. We ourselves use computers on a daily basis to help us with things as simple as typing up a paper. But imagine if you couldn’t write a paper on a computer, or if you couldn’t use a computer at all? Many people’s lives would probably very different today, so it is no doubt that the computer is not taken for granted. If anyone, Steve Jobs should be credited for this greatness in our society. He brought huge contributions toward the technology of today’s society, and is proof that a man with vision and drive can forever change the world.
Jobs’, like almost everyone, was a unique individual growing up. He was born on February 24 of 1955 in San Francisco California, but was adopted two weeks later (Seibold NP). His new legal parents were Paul and Clara Jobs, who at the time lived south of the Bay Area (Moisecot NP). Through his early years of elementary school, classmates described that Jobs stood somewhat as a “loner” or didn’t really fit in (Young 10). He wasn’t very much in line with school until around fourth grade, and then he took off. Right after that he was asked to skip 5th grade, by his teachers, and continue on to middle school. Throughout his school years he showed a somewhat stubborn and controlling feeling toward his parents. A major example of this was when he refused to go to the local middle school again after having a rough year being younger than anyone else (Young 12). Of course his parents wouldn’t let Jobs just not go to school, so it got to the point to where they moved to Los Altos, the heart of Silicon Valley (Young 12).
Silicon Valley was the most ideal place for any computer dream to start. Just around Jobs’ neighborhood there...
