Freedom of Expression Gone Too Far
When was the last time you were offended by someone’s words? It probably wasn’t too long ago. Although we live in a free world and enjoy much of the liberties that are allowed, there are too many times when someone’s words just makes you frown and angry. Words can be a dagger to your heart. The government needs to enforce stricter laws against freedom of speeches that are offensive and invading to others.
First of all, the rambunctiousness on the internet has gotten out of hand. People are abusing the power of incognito that is allowed on the internet. People, feeling safe behind their monitors, are calling other people names just for fun. They think that since they can’t see the people who they are talking to, they don’t have to feel guilty about the harm they cause by what they type on their keyboards. For example, it’s hard not to find comments that do not have offensive remarks in forums. It is usually plagued with childish and offensive comments that do not make practical sense. Another big problem about the internet is that it is where people create rumors about celebrities. Recently, a celebrity has committed suicide after a nonsense rumor about her has spread over the internet. It shows how someone typing their keyboard in their home has indirectly killed one of the most famous stars in Korea. There should be stricter laws against people who cause havoc with their words on the internet.
Music is a form of expression. However, music has also become a form of verbal violence. There are times when the content of the music that we hear through the TV or the radio is very disturbing and unpleasant. At extreme level, there are lyrics that contain racism and profanity that is way over the line. Also, some contain contents that are too sexually suggestive.
