How Aristotle's Four Types of Causation are Applied to
Psychological Disorders
Introduction
To really understand and explore the world around us and the nature of things, we need to know the reason why something exists. Aristotle gave us four possible causes that we need to answer in order to understand the nature of things. These causes give us answers to the questions like: what is the thing made from, what is its form or essence, what produced it and for what purpose to determine the function. The psychological disorders in modern psychology often have even multiple causalities, which give us the good reason to try to decompose them for better understanding, using Aristotle’s four causes. When we understand them better, we can find a better treatment, which is highly beneficial not only for an individual, but for the society as a whole.
Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety is an unpleasant emotional state characterized by physical arousal and feelings of tension, apprehension, and worry (Hockenbury 506). Although it is unpleasant, anxiety is sometimes helpful. It can help people stay alert and focused, encourage them to action, and motivate people to solve problems. For example, anxiety about our grades may motivate us to study harder.
