The death penalty is one of the most difficult problems to be solved in the United States. Whether the death penalty is right or wrong, it is still a contentious topic to be debated in our today's society. In the United States and in some other nations such as China and Iran,the death penalty is commonly applied. However, since 1990, the death penalty has been abolished by more than thirty countries because it was cosidered a cruel and inhuman punishment.
First,it is not a deterrent;crime rates have not gone down . Second, innocent people may be wrongly condemned.And lastly, executions cost more than life in prision. Death is definitely not a solution to solve human issues. The death penalty looks to be nothing but legalized murder, and there is no other solution but to execute the death penalty once and for all.

First, the death penalty has never been shown to deter or reduce   crimes more effectively than other punishments. Studies of the deterrent effect of the death penalty have been conducted for several years, with varying results. Most of these studies have failed to produce evidence that the death penalty   is taking effect to reduce violence and crime.

When comparisons are made between states with the death penalty and states without, the majority of death penalty states show murder rates higher than non-death penalty states. The average murder rate per 100,000 population in 1996 among death penalty states was 7.1, the average murder rate among non-death penalty states was only 3.6. A look at neighboring death penalty and non-death penalty states show similar trends. Death penalty states usually have a higher murder rate than their neighboring non-death penalty states.
The death penalty makes the society more violent, by executing a person, the state commits a murder and shows the same readiness to use physical violence against its victim as the criminal.
