What Caused the American Civil War?
Before the gruesome days of the Civil War began there were certain events leading up to this inevitable event. Slavery was a huge controversial thing that held power over many states. Northerners and southerners bumped heads repeatedly over this. Salve power was organized and conspirational in its methods, consisted of Southern slaveholding planters and political leaders whom wanted to convert the entire nation into “masters” and “slaves” Slave power shaped the nation and served people for their own selfish needs. Abraham Lincoln came along and attempted to destroy the Union and abolish slavery. This abolishment, this righteous act to save lives was the creation of the American Civil War.
A powerful and very influential figure towards the American Civil War was Abraham Lincoln. One of the major causes of the Civil war was that the belief of abolishing slavery, by which Lincoln stood strongly by. Abraham stated that instead of political agitators causing a crisis in the country and the threat that was destroying the Union, it was slavery that was the true crisis.
“In my opinion, it will not cease, until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe that this government cannont enfure, permantently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved- I do not expect the house to fall- but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one things, or all the other. Either the opponents of slavery, will arrest the further spread of it and place it where the publis mind shall rest in the belief that it is in course ultimate extinction; of its advocates will push it forward, till it shall became alike lawful in all the states, old as well as new- North as well as South” (Abraham Lincoln.)
