View Full Essay Baptism   How does baptism in the Church of Ireland differ from baptism in the Baptist Church?   What are your personal views on baptism?   The protestant churches accept 2 sacraments given by Jesus in the Gospels. They are baptism and Holy Communion. The Roman Catholic Church has seven sacraments including marriage, confirmation and ordination. Sacraments have been defined as “an outward visible sign of an inward spiritual grace.” It is a visible sign that shows us how we can come close to God. The outward visible signs are water, bread and wine, and for the Protestantsthese are symbols of something much deeper and unseen.   He/she will say the words “I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit and plunge the person backwards into the water, they then leave the water and get changed. Both the Baptist church and the church of Ireland believe baptism to be a sacrament and fundamental to being a full member of the churches even though they have different ways of carrying out baptism.   What are your personal views of baptism?   I believe in the baptism for the Baptist church because it says in the Bible that Jesus fully immersed in the River Jordan and children should have their own choice when they are older. I believe that the church of Ireland does not follow the Bible because it does not say anything about children getting Baptised or having water sprinkled or dripped on their heads. It also does not say anything in the bible about godparents, I believe that you should have your own choice whether you get baptized or not.   Recourses I used     Bible       Recourses from class       Class notes       http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptism       http://www.request.org.uk/main/dowhat/baptism/what.htm
