The Cold War
The Cold War lasted from the 1940’s to the early 1990’s and was a time of conflict between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R) and their allies. The United States and allies being non-communist accused the U.S.S.R and allies of trying to spread communism throughout the world. Although no military action never actually took place, the two countries fought in different areas. This intense rivalry lasted for almost half-century and ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union and communism.

This policy would eventually expand to justifying support for any nation that the United States government considered to be threatened by Soviet expansionism. This would come to be known as the containment policy and would the United States main policy regarding the Soviets and communism.
Following the containment policy the rise of conflict between the two rose in Germany. Following the war, Germany had been split into different zones. The United States and Britain combined their zones because they felt because...
