Water Resource Plan
Water Resource Plan The water resource problem addressed in the following water resource plan is the Aquifer Depletion. An aquifer is a geologic formation, group of formations, or part of a formation that contains sufficient saturated permeable materials to yield significant quantities of water to wells and springs. The following chart explains the proposed sustainability plan. The plan will be an ongoing effort between community leaders, geologist and citizens of the community. Opposition to the above sustainment will most likely come from developers and the farming community. Developers in rural areas depend and large wells. Farmers also need to pull large quantities of water from the aquifer system. The recovery team will also address these issues and will try to find alternative water sources for the developers and farmers. Currently no other land or water resources appear to be in danger of the plan in its current state. The idea behind the proposal is to allow time for the aquifer to replenish its water supply. The idea is to curb development and as a result pollution may also be reduced through lack of development and reducing plant and tree destruction. The challenges of the plan are convincing the community about the danger if we let the aquifer run dry. According to a story about the Ogalla Aquifer, the Sunflower Power Plant want to build three coal-fired generating units which would use about 30,000 acre feet of water a year. This is four times the water used by the town of Salina. (The Salina Journal 2006). The community will have to learn to use the energy they are currently possessed or find different sources of energy without using the aquifer. The plan affects the community in various ways. The jobs in the construction industries may be decreased for many years. The lack of building or expanding power plants will affect the electricity availability. Power grids may suffer from high demand times such as running air conditioner in the heat of...
