Training Program for InterClean/EnviroTech Merger
Training consists of planned programs designed to improve performance at the individual, group, and/or organizational levels. Improved performance, in turn implies that there have been measurable changes in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and/or social behavior (Cascio, 2005, chap. 8). Training and development can be initiated for a variety of reasons for an employee or group of employees. Some of these reasons include, but are not limited to; when a performance appraisal indicates performance improvement is needed, to “benchmark” the status of improvement so far in a performance improvement effort, as part of an overall professional development program, as part as succession planning to help an employee be eligible for a planned change in role in the organization, to “pilot”, or test, the operation of a new performance management system, or to train about a specific topic (McNamara, 1997, p. 1).
The particular need for training in this instance is the merger of InterClean and EnviroTech. With the merger, there is going to be a new strategic direction that will be taking place; not only will the company be selling cleaning products, but they will also provide full-service cleaning solutions for organizations in the health care industry. Sales training will always be a priority for the company because no matter what the current sales are, management will always see room for improvement.
First, there will be an assessment phase. This will serve as a foundation for the entire training effort. This will provide management with feedback of what the current sales staff already know, and what they need to learn.
