Taiping Rebellion and Boxer Rebellion compare and contrast
The Taiping Rebellion and the Boxer rebellion share several characteristics, but still maintain their many differences. They both originated from peasants, occurred in the reign of Manchu, and they both took place in China. Differences about the two is that the meanings to start the rebellion are differenent. The taiping rebeliion was started in order to change the countries religion, the Boxer rebellions cause was becasue of the many growth of cosmopolitan influences, imperialist expansion,and missionary evangelism.
The Taiping Rebellion was one of the largest peasant revolts that took place from 1850 to 1864 against the the Qing Government in China. It was started by the army and civil administration led by heterodox Christian convert Hong Xiuquan. He had control of southern China, and was ruling over about many people. The goal of this revolt was to take away Confucianism, Buddhism and Chinese and to use a different type of Christianity. Hong Xiuquan thought he was the younger brother of jesus and was determined to get all chinese to learn the teacings of this peculiar christianity of his.The rebellion was eventually put down by the Qing army After about 20 and 30 million deathsbecause of starvation, and warfare. The taipang rebellion is known to be one of the deadliest conflicts.
The Boxer Rebellion was started by the Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists in China.This rebellion was started because of the growth of cosmopolitan influences, imperialist expansion,and missionary evangelism. Organizations began to arise in shainghai but at first, they were hiddenby the Qing Dynasty. Later Qing dynasty tried to expell western influence out of China. Boxers then killed missionaries and Chinese Christians. Boxer fighters, with little to no weapons gathered in beijing .
