Society Paper
The defects of society can be traced back to the defects of human nature an example is the novel “Lord of the Flies.” If you leave a group of civilized boys that grew up in a civilized society, eventually their natural instinct is to create a civilized society. Create rules and duties for everyone, until finally the society got too unruly and could be not be controlled. The defects of society depend on the defects of human nature. The defects in a society depend on the defects of the leader in charge.
Lord of the Flies uses the analogy of the civilization run by children to portray the idea that because people desire power and wish to satisfy their own needs over others. Society cannot fully function. When Ralph was in charge he neglected to make rules and boundaries for the group. However Ralph did create duties for the group. There were the hunters, the people who kept the fire going and the people who built the huts. Eventually most boys became unfocused and neglected their duties therefore creating defects in their civilized society because there are defects in the leaders and defects in the humans themselves. The boys in the island didn’t have the discipline to get their work done. They are immature and are without an overlooking authority. Without any authority the boys go wild. Just like in a society if there is no leader the society becomes wild and uncontrolled.
The natural human desire is to possess power and control. Both Ralph and Jack want the control and the power of ruling the group of boys. Jack is overruled and Ralph is put in power as chief. Further on in the novel Jack encourages the other boys to go against the power, by doing so jack gains more and more power for himself.
