Drugs are rated number one in the destruction of our communities. Federal
statistics show one in every ten communities are ruined by at least one type of
drug. There are many things for our society to do to fix this long time problem.
The 1950’s through 1980’s were when [pic]drugs [pic]such as marijuana, cocaine, crack
and acid became popular. The government tried to stop cocaine and marijuana in [pic]the
early 1900's but was not able to prevent the steady rise of distribution through [pic]the
20th century. Even though LSD was created by the [pic]government itself, it came at a
crucial time on the war against [pic]drugs during the 1960's and spilled into [pic]the public,
only becoming more frequently used. Marijuana traces back to Native Americans who used
the plant for all kinds of reasons, some of which are the same recreational purposes that
teenagers use it today. From the late 1800's to [pic]the early 1900's marijuana was freely used by
Americans everywhere. Marijuana, commonly referred to as "weed" or "pot", is the most used
drug in America for reasons such as peer pressure and the mistake of believing the drug has
very little negative effects, if any. However, although marijuana is believed to be one of the
least harmful illegal substances available to the American public, it is frequently accused of
being a gateway drug, meaning that the user will soon graduate to more dangerous [pic]drugs
[pic]such as cocaine. It was not until the 1950's when Anslinger began to pass laws making
marijuana illegal that [pic]drugs became a well known issue. He released many posters and reports
claiming that marijuana causes temporary insanity, violence, and homicidal tendencies. Next
