A Rebel

Dear Honored Parents,

I hope you are well. Things have been difficult for me as the army does not have very much food to ration to the soldiers. I am afraid that when winter sets in we will not have even enough food to survive. I was excited to hear about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Isn’t it hard to believe that we are finally splitting off from Britain? I have not been in many battles. I have received a small wound when a musket ball grazed my shoulder. Fortunately infection did not set in and I only needed to wrap it with bandages for a few days.
The British seem to think that we are just a rag-tag group of freedom fighters but we are being well trained by General Washington. However when winter comes the chance that we will not have enough warm clothes and shelter is very great.
I believe the cause is just so I will not complain. We have a great many reasons for splitting off from Britain. For one thing, how can a massive continent be ruled by the king of a small island? How can a king effectively rule a country from over 2500 miles away? The king is a tyrant. His main reason for keeping the colonies is so that they can’t cut into his trade. Also I do not believe that one’s chance for holding political office should be decided only by heredity. This split from England is necessary and I will fight for freedom until my last breath.

Your Humble Son,
Pinkathin
