A Raisin In The Sun
Money makes the world go around. Money is important in today’s world because the whole world is turning into a big business world. In the play “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, Mama and Walter begin to struggle about how the money will be spent throughout the Younger Family. Each of the two characters different views affected the play. In today’s world, Money is the cause of conflicts between the Younger Family where you either win or lose it all which is exactly what happened to Walter in this play.
Mama Younger is the grandmother in the play. Mama believes that money should be used for the important things in life. She thinks money shouldn’t be used to make someone look rich but just to give someone the necessities. Mama believes that some of the money she is receiving should go to Beneatha so that she can go to medical school and get a good education and become a good doctor. Mama also wants to use the money to get a new house with a big garden in the back so she can grow plants.
Walter Younger is the father in the play. He is married to Ruth and has a kid names Travis. Walter believes that money is the world and he cannot live without money. Walter blames all of his problems on money and he feels embarrassed for not having any money. “DAMN MY EGGS-DAMN ALL THE EGGS THAT EVER WAS.” Walter wants to make investments into a liquor store which doesn’t turn out the way that he planned because he loses all of that money when his friend Willy took the money and never came back.
During the play, Mama and Walter’s differences affected the play. Walter is fighting with his wife. Walter is angry that Ruth won’t persuade Mama to hand out the money differently. Walter also fights with Beneatha. He doesn’t think that they should pay for her college.
