Kudler Fine Foods is a premiere grocery store offering a wide range of gourmet foods including specialty departments in wine, meats, bakery, produce, cheese and dairy. The mission of Kudler Fine Foods’ (KFF) is to be committed to provide their customers with the finest selection of the very best foods and wines.
Problem Statement
After evaluating the owner/chief operator’s work schedule and ambitions to expand KFFs to future new store locations, it would increase the prosperity of the store to restructure and empower the store management team to assist in making major business decisions. The KFF strategic plan considers it a weakness of the company to have such a small management team (Kudler 2003). End vision of KFFs is to fulfill its mission statement while effectively expanding to new store locations to maximize profits.
As Kathy the owner of KFF looks to expand to new store locations it becomes a risk for the company to expand while maintaining the same management structure. As Kathy already works seven days a week, it is important as the company grows for Kathy to share the responsibilities of running the entire operation. A trend in management has been to become less of a top down command, and more a process of giving employees authority to make important decisions and be responsible for the outcomes. “The overriding goal of this sharing of power is to directly involve employees in decision making so they can use their expertise to help increase the prosperity of the organization” (Barnard, 1999)
