Analyse the issues of organisational behaviour which are raised in this case study, in terms of any 2 of the following: Motivation, Leadership, Attitudes.
In terms of the issues of motivation raised in this case study; Debs on one hand seems to be a very de-motivated character and there are many reasons for this. Debs wanted advancement in her career from the very start of her time at this job, although factors within the job seemed to diminish her motivation the longer she stayed there, due to the fact she believed “the fun had wore off”. Debs felt that the work had become routine and mundane she was indeed of more challenging surrounds, the type of surroundings that would come from e.g. a promotion. After all creativity and spontaneity are top Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
Debs had lost 80% of her friends since she had started at her job according to Maslow “friendship” plays a key role in a person’s hierarchy of needs, so there was no wonder debs was becoming less and less motivated.
Maslow also states that a person needs job security to be truly motivated so the fact that debs believed that she wasn’t secure in her job “because she knew that such work operations were rapidly becoming more automated and she might be laid off in the near future.” Must have been playing on her mind and was also a contributing factor to her lack of motivation.
When Darren had just started at the company, he and debs went through a “honey moon” period, Debs was initially motivated because of his friendliness his enthusiastic approach and the fact that he actually listened to her and her fellow employees....
