The first known settlers in New Zealand were the Polynesian Maori tribe who enjoyed their peaceful habitation starting 800 A.D. It was only in 1840 when British colonizers succeeded in making the country apart of its territories under the Treaty of Waitangi. The British used NZ for its military operations until the country’s importance in its defense undertakings eventually waned by the 1980s. According to the 2001 census, the country’s population consists of 69.8 percent European, 7.9 percent Maori, and 5.7 percent Asian, 4.4 percent Pacific islanders and 12.1 percent other cultural minorities. (C.I.A., 2007) Now, a fledgling country, NZ boasts of a rich cultural heritage and exciting natural resources without sacrificing the benefits of modernization. No other country can boast of so many outdoor adventure ideas than New Zealand. May it be summer or winter, there are loads of fun activities in store for everyone. From bungy jumping to Zorb adventures, these exciting endeavors are sure to tickle and satisfy every person’s sense of thrill.
