Running Head: FILM ANALYSIS OF MUNICH Film Analysis of Munich Compared to History Javier Rodriguez Devry University Munich (2005) is a semi-fictional film that depicts Israel’s response to the 1972 massacre of 11 Israeli Olympicathletes. The film follows a group of men who are set to assassinate the members of Black September, a militant organization that planned the Munich massacre. Throughout the film the main characters are met with dilemmas and start to question why they are killing these men. Many of this movie are historically true, while others are quite controversial. It’s hard to deem what is true and false, because of the secret nature of terrorism and counter-terrorism. Then, the man who had a hold through his cheek still attempted to fight; the terrorists then shot him, but the attack let a teammate escape through the underground garage. Another Israeli was contemplating on escaping or going to try to help out his fellow teammates. He was about to run away when he turned around, grabbed a knife, and stabbed a terrorist in the head. The terrorists then turned around and shot him, which splattered blood all over the walls. This part of the movie is unbelievably true. With true heroism, other members of the Israeli team were able to escape. According to Bard (2008): The Black September terrorists then made demands for Israel to let go of Palestinian prisoners, and also a safe passage to Cairo. Israel did not negotiate at all with the demands of the terrorists but the Germans agreed for a safe passage out of Germany. There were also several rescue attempts involving the German police. They tried to sneak in, but with all the media, the terrorists saw them coming in and told them to stop or they would start to shoot hostages. Following hastily, the rescue attempt wasquickly aborted. Bard (2008) then states, “At 9:30, the terrorists announced that they were Palestinians and demanded that Israel release 200 Arab prisoners and that the terrorists be given...
