Lord Of The Flies
Peter Drucker once said Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.
Good morning miss and fellow students,
Today I am here to evaluate the leadership styles of a boy called Ralph from a book called lord of the flies.
William Golding wrote the novel Lord of the Flies in 1954, the novel tells the survival story of a group of English school boys who are victims of a plane crash which leaves them stranded on a deserted island. The island that the boys get trapped on becomes a microcosm of their own society. Lord of the Flies is about the evil inherent in humans when all rules and laws are taken away. The novel proves that humans are inherently evil, and strict adherence to laws and rules are the only way that humans can escape from this evil. Golding proves this through the actions of Jack, Ralph’s decent in to savagery, and the fate of Simon.
Trapped on the island, the group of boys have no adults to tell them what to do and have no laws to keep them in order. They might be civil at first, with the conch as a symbol of their order, but when the conch breaks, the boys turn to beasts led only by their savage impulse. They are separated into two groups, one led by Jack who represents the inherent savagery in humankind when left to their own devices, and the other group led by Ralph who represents order and leadership.
Ralph is one of the central characters of Lord of the Flies. He is 12 years old, tall, blond, and descried to be attractive. Ralph is a natural leader and after discovering the conch shell, he is elected as leader of the boys. Throughout the novel Ralph tries to establish order and focus on rescue. He decides that a boy can only speak at the meetings if he is holding the conch shell. He wants to keep the fire on the mountain going so that if a plane or boat passes, the boys can be saved.
