The Scarsdale diet was a famous book written in 1970’s, by Dr. Herman Tarnower, who insists you can lose 20lbs in two weeks. The Scarsdale diet plan is a two-week low fat/ low carbohydrate and high in protein diet. This diet has become one of most popular weight loss programs in the world.
The Scarsdale diet has a peculiar nutrient ratio, very distinctive from others. It contains:
43% Protein
22.5% Fat
34.5% Carbohydrates
Dr. Tarnower claims this level of diet brings about the process of ketosis. It is a very low calorie diet, only about 1000 cal/day and is very strict during the first two weeks of plan. Then you go off the diet for a period of time, doing this is said to optimize your results and to prevent your body from adapting to the diet regimen.
The basis of this diet is eliminating most carbohydrates and limiting your intake of others. The carbs on the diet are in limited quantities and they consist of mostly natural whole grains, but you can eat any amount of protein meat as you want. It does not recommend exercise for people over forty. The calorie in take is so low, I’m sure you wouldn’t have the energy!
I think you could probably lose weight quickly on this diet, but for a long term diet plan, I think it would be hard to follow and you would gain the wait back in a short time.
