It is an illicit drug that is usually smoked as a cigarette or in a pipe. Many teenagers use marijuana for various reasons ignoring its effects on the mind and also the harmful long-term complications that arise with use.

In today’s society, most teenagers have the desire to fit in with the crowd; therefore, they use marijuana to gain acceptance into a social group. The use of drugs or alcohol in the family can also play a role in influencing the use of drugs by teens. Teenagers are faced with many issues in day-to-day life. To overcome these issues they smoke marijuana to relieve stress. It helps them escape from problems in the home, at school, or even with friends. Smoking to relieve stress seems like the ideal thing to do, but what impact does this have on the mind and body
Marijuana affects the mind in many ways. The use of marijuana makes simple tasks, such as reading difficult. It also alters the concentration rate, making it difficult to learn or remember things. The ability to perform tasks that require coordination, such as driving or walking is greatly affected with marijuana use. It is easy to tell when a person is under the influence of marijuana. When under the influence people usually have trouble walking, become very giggly for no apparent reason, and also tend to become very hungry. Since marijuana affects judgment, activities such as casual sex, can lead to unwanted pregnancies and even the spread of diseases. These are just the short-term effects that marijuana has on an individual. Larger complications arise with continued use.
