Heredity and Hormones
Heredity and the environment are significant foundations of shaping human behavior, yet hormones as well, have a noticeable control on one’s physical and mental condition. Heredity in human behavior is a particularly complex matter, seeing that it may or may not manipulate a character’s behavior. While hereditarily inclined to a definite behavior, one is not liable to take steps until there are further pressures stimulating that act.
The endocrine system produces hormones through endocrine glands that are comprised of the thyroid gland, the pituitary gland, the pineal gland, the parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, and ovaries in women and testes in men (Morris & Maisto, 2005). Hormones are chemical substances released into the bloodstream by the aforementioned endocrine glands that will journey throughout the bloodstream until they arrive at their objective tissues.
Hormones control much concerning individuals, for instance development and even our own personalities. Each gland has a significant purpose in controlling certain aspects of the body’s behavior. For example, the thyroid gland’s purpose is to regulate the metabolism in the body and control how fast thyroxin distributes throughout the body. The thyroid gland manages alertness, energy, and weight gain or loss with the hormone thyroxin. On the opposite end of the gland strand are the ovaries, which only women have and testes that are found in men.
The ovaries function is to discharge established gametes and to exude hormones. The discharge produced is in cycles that occur every four weeks in humans. With this release, is the most important hormones progesterone and estradiol. These hormones can affect behavior in that they can improve sexual receptiveness during the menstrual cycles because that is when the estrogen they secrete is at their maximum.
