Goodness and the Greatest Possible Being
One of the problems addressed in Wes Morriston’s “What is so good about Moral Freedom?” is that rather than be morally good humans should be perfectly good as that would be a preferable way for humanity to be.. The problem I have with this lays in the ontological proof of God, and that God is the Greatest Possible Being. The problem I have is that if God did make us perfectly good because that is better we fall into a pit fall of logic. What I mean is that if God could make us perfectly good for the sake of a better world it would follow that he would also make us perfect in every other regard. In essence the greatest possible being would create humanity as the greatest possible beings as well.
But it would be impossible for the greatest possible being to create the greatest possible being, as their can not be multiple greatest possible beings. One could argue that I have taken the idea of God improving us too far, that we can be improved without God having to make us the Greatest Possible Being. Also I say being and not human, and the God could create the Greatest Possible Human without having to create the Greatest Possible Being. I believe that this is possible, but the question is what is the difference between the Greatest Possible Human and the Greatest Possible Being? One could argue that God could give us nearly all his perfect attributes save for the few that make him omni-powerful. He could make us perfectly good in all respects, but humans would not be all-seeing all-powerful beings. While we can agree that the world is better if humans were all good, I do not see it being the same if humans were all powerful or possessed any other omni-qualities, the Greatest Possible Human is one who has a.
