Global Warming

Is global warming real or is it some sort of elaborate hoax? Should we believe the proof of a scientist or the word of politician? I tend to be persuaded more by scientific proof. Every main scientific establishment researching the climate, ocean, or atmosphere has come to an agreement that the climate is swiftly warming and the major origin of the problem is human carbon dioxide emissions. Everyone is entitled to his, or her own opinion but I do not know how anyone can ignore the facts. Without the deceleration of global warming, ever-increasing opportunities for greenhouse gases to escape into the atmosphere will become available which will inevitably cause irreversible damages. We have a problem, it needs our attention, and it needs it now.
There are what seems to be an endless number of warning signs becoming visible that global warming is a very real threat and will continue to be exposed in the years and decades to come. The most evident case of all that global warming is a serious problem is a simple, yet quite obvious one; it is in the numbers and in the average temperature. National Geographic News (2007) stated “average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies”. This may not seem like much of an increase, but on a geological scale it is monumental when we consider how relatively stable our temperatures have been in the previous centuries. McIntyre (2008) stated that the IPCC fourth assessment reported “it is likely that the last 50 years were the warmest in the past 1300 years”. For me, it is not the overall rise in temperature that is the most daunting but rather the rate in which these temperatures have risen.
To the average person 1.4 degrees may seem to be a small rise in temperature. Nevertheless, this jump in heat has been substantial enough to allow the book of nature to open its pages to...
