The "banking" concept of education as an instrument of oppression- it's presuppositons- a critique; the
problem - posing concept of education as an instrument for liberation- it's presupposition's; the "banking"
concept and teacher/student contradiction; the problem- posing concept; education: a mutual process, would-
mediate people as incomplete beings, concious of the incompletion, and the attempt to be more fully human.
The oppressor views the oppressed as inept and sub-human. The oppressor will provide inadequate
training for the oppressed. This action will maintain the oppressors agenda, to remain in control. An education
provided by the oppressor will be inadequate and insufficient for the oppressed to obtain freedom.
The views of the oppressed are guided by the oppressors opinions and self-serving ideas.
The oppressor has agents called "banking clerks". A "banking clerk" is represented by an educator. These
educators encounter many contradictions in their methodology. Guidelines for instruction are set be the
oppressor, their express duty is to maintain the opinions and ideas of the oppressor.
In my experience, i have found all of this to be true based on critical analyst of my educational background.
A defeated outlook was already established within myself and my peers, this ideal reared our preception of
life and our futures.
This state of thinking was something i deliberately had to withdraw from in order that i may achieve true
happiness (freedom) for myself in this life. A quote that i place near to me is "Freedom is aquired by conquest
not by gift". (Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Pg. 47)
The conquest is where i arrived to upon reaching the realization that i had been miseducation, and driven into
the status quo. Then another revelation occurred, the status quo was not business as usual for me, it was
