Extra-Credit Critical Movie Review – The Patriot
Directions: Write an original analysis of the movie The Patriot that is a minimum of 2 typed, double-spaced pages after watching the movie. Give specific examples from the movie for each topic. Remember, you are writing a coherent paper. It should not read as if you are just answering a series of questions.
Your paper must address #1 and one of the other following analytical issues:
1) Based on what you have learned, how well did the film depict the events and emotional atmosphere of the Revolution? Provide examples to support your opinions.
2) Explain the two different motivations of Benjamin and Gabriel for fighting in the war.
3) What were the differences between the ways that the regular army and the militia fought battles?
4) What are your feelings about the way the film portrayed the atrocities of the Revolutionary War?
5) How well did the film deal with the issue of race in the Revolution?
6) What was your favorite scene? Why?
In addition, your paper must address at least ONE of the following analytical issues:
1) In what ways was the fictional character Colonel Tavington based on the historical figure Banastre Tarleton?
2) What similarities are there between the fictional character of Benjamin Martin and the historical figure of Frances Marion?
This section requires some additional research on your part. It should be at least half a page.
