grewgdrgEducation has one goal: to educate its’ students. This would seem the case, however, studies show that if you are a white traditional American student, you’re going to do a lot better in school than someone who is not.
E.D. Hirsch, the author of the essay “Cultural Literacy,” wrote, “The national decline in literacy…takes into account the still greater lowering Education in America marginalizes multi-cultured students.
In Hirsch’s essay, he describes how the decline of literacy in American students is caused, not by the teaching methods themselves, but by the ever-changing content. The “canon method”, which was a core curriculum for all students, was taught in the 1980s to 1900 (Hirsch 56).   Since then, the curriculum has changed to be more widespread, and with it, SAT scores have been declining.
Hirsch goes into describing that students do well in history and English when they have some pretense of what they are studying. “Researchers at the City University of New York were finding that when a topic is unfamiliar, writing skill declines in all of its dimensions…”(Hirsch 61).

The native Taino made a big mistake showing Christopher Columbus the gold nuggets in the riverbed and telling him he could have as much as he wanted. Then after, Puerto Rico got its name, “rich port”, which became Spain’s most important military outpost. The Taino thought that the Spaniards had divine power because they brought over livestock like horses and cows that the native people had never seen before.
