Effects of Technology   There are always technological advances that are used to assist us in our day-to-day lives. Some are as mundane as the electric toothbrush and others like the Internet have a way of changing our very lives. The introduction of the Internet was very soft spoken. It took quite a while for it to catch on mainstream and work its way into the juggernaut that we know it as today. In the span of its life it went from an obscure networking idea to connecting people across the world and gave rise to e-commerce. Now, businesses are reliant on the internet to drive consumer purchases and exchange money.   My company employs about nine hundred people, and we have six satellite offices. Every single employee is reliant on the Internet to do his or her job. We communicate with the external offices via the Internet. If for some reason this communication link went down for a lengthy amount of time we would be forced to utilize the postal service for business transactions and this lag time would take a huge toll on our profitability and efficiency. We do not have a huge company so I can imagine that large corporations would be overwhelmed with process problems.   Internet problems are nothing new. Several times a year our Internet connection will fail due to a hardware issue. However, these problems are not crippling. Dubai recently experienced an Internet outage when two underwater cables failed.
