“A Doll House”
In A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, the main character, Nora, is a young woman married to a man named Torvald who is about to receive a promotion to be manager of the Mutual Bank. She proves she is a loving wife and mother and would do anything for her husband and children as she took out a loan against her husbands will in order to save his life. She is a contributing member of society as she not only takes out the loan on her own but also saves and works to pay it back. Nora shows great responsibility through the story in a number of different ways proving that she is a great mother, wife, and contributing member of society. Nora is more than the woman everyone sees; she is a good mother, wife, and contributing member of society.
Nora shows great responsibility as she takes care of her children. Wanting them to have the best things even if she doesn’t get the same luxuries shows how much she loves her children. She went Christmas shopping and came home bragging to Torvald what she had bought for each of the children; and she was excited because she knew they would be excited. Then when asked what she wanted for herself she replied “Oh nothing, I really don’t care” (1.1.1081). The year before she locked herself in one of the rooms of the house for three weeks to make Christmas ornaments for the tree because they didn’t have money to buy them. Also, When the nurse started to take the children’s clothes off for the day she replied “Please let me; I think its so much fun” (1.1.1095). Then Nora played hide and seek with the children. Nora is more than capable of being a good mother to her children and shows it by not only wanting all of the best things for her children but also by spending time playing with them and taking care of them.
Nora also shows how responsible she is and a loving wife. Prior to the story being told Nora had taken out a loan from Mr. Krogstad to help save her husband’s life. She...
