Crt 205 Support A Position

Week One: Assignment
Supporting a Position
CRT 205

Many people have asked this question. “Should the U.S. continue to use capital punishment?” There are many who are passionate about their answer and feel that capital punishment is a form of receiving justice, while others feel that it is immoral. My position on whether or not capital punishment should continue is neutral. I agree with both sides equally. I feel that if at least one state enforces capital punishment, then all states should enforce it and vice versa. I do not understand why some states have capital punishment and others do not. If a person committed the same crime, the punishment should be the same across the entire U.S.
There are roughly 38 states using capital punishment as a possible sentence. Since this is a large percentage of the states that support capital punishment, I am now more concern with the consistency amongst the U.S. A murderer has the option of committing his crime in a state where they will not receive the death penalty. I believe in fairness. Everyone should receive the same punishment for the same crime. In a way, that could be classified as discrimination. Based on the state you live in, determines your punishment.
I am a religious person and I do believe that God takes care of everyone even those who live their life in sin. I do not believe that the life of an individual should be taken from another human being. On the other side, I know that justice is the quality of being just or fair. If a person takes a life, they should be punished, but I am not sure if the death penalty is the right choice. I do not agree that a jury of people can decide whether a person lives or dies because of their crime. I think my overall thought on capital punishment is finding a balance of fairness and justice.
My main concern regarding capital punishment is consistency. I would like to see the U.S. be consistent and fair.
