Class
The first class I observed was Mrs. Norwood’s physical science class that consisted of thirteen students. The classroom appearance was very organized. On the whiteboard, the teacher listed all the important dates that the students needed to be aware of for the summer session. All the students seemed to be engaged and actively participating in the lesson by responding to the discussion. Mrs. Norwood used the textbook to conduct the lesson on molecules. All students were required to read a couple of paragraphs from the textbook when their turn arose. After each student finish reading, she conducted a class discussion on what was just read. If something from the text needed to be emphasis she wrote it on the board. During the discussion, Mrs. Norwood response to the students was positive. She was constantly nodding and smiling at the student responding to the text. Also, each once on a while she would refer back to a particular chapter and show the students how the chapters connected to on another. Once they finished reading a section, she gave the students about fifteen minutes to answer the review questions at the end of the text. While students answered the question, she walked around to ensure students were on task and answer question if needed. She did this method of teaching for the duration of the class because the students had an exam of tomorrow. The students break time was every fifty minutes for ten minutes and all but two boys returned to class on time, which the teacher did make note of. At the end of class, the ticket out the door was for students to turn in their review questions.
Next class I observed was Mrs. Thompson’s English class, which had seventeen students. For the majority of this class, the students were during independent study.
