Chin Music Response
Chin Music is when the ball makes a whistling sound as it pass under the batter’s throat. Throughout life people usually have their bad days. In the story, Chin Music it is mainly about people losing their composure when people were pushing their buttons. Mr. Steinberg was in class and cussed at one of his students and it took him back when his coach did the same thing to him. Steinberg promised he would not frighten to motivate his students.
The author stated when he first started teaching that he did not want to intimidate his students. He did so, when he cussed at Drew moving towards the door while he was still lecturing the students. Steinberg seemed to be getting tired of the students being rude and disrespectful. For example in the story he said “I felt like a space invader in my own classroom. A few of the freshmen glided in the class with rollerblades and skateboards and others would eat and talk on their cell phones.” He did not view teaching the same way as he did when he first started teaching.
The purpose of this article is to show that the author is reminded of his coach after his disagreement with Drew and talking to one of his colleagues. He wonders if he is turning in to a version of his coach. Steinberg felt this way because when he was a member of the baseball team one day he pushed his coach buttons. Coach Sullivan made the same mistake Steinberg did in the classroom. The coach made a racist comment and made it seem like it was Steinberg fault. Steinberg cussed at Drew and tried to intimidate him and embarrassed him in front of the class. The both of them are alike because they are the adult and are suppose to keep control no matter what.
There is a difference between Coach Sullivan and Steinberg. Steinberg felt bad when he cussed at Drew. For example in the story it says “Everyone was stunned including me.” He even said he was mad at him for taking the bait, it shows Steinberg is not that type of person to just cuss someone out and not...
