A Brief History Of Bebop (Hd With Proper Citing)

INTRO
In Harlem, New York during the early 1940's (CITE NEEDED); a radical movement was taking place in the world of jazz.
Orchestras lead by Billy Eckstine were hinting at a new style of music (CITE NEEDED),
players had begun to conduct fresh approaches to rhythm, harmony, tempo and extended
techniques(CITE NEEDED). This style known as bebop had became one of the most iconoclastic
and revered of the many Jazz styles (CITE NEEDED). With its colourful and chaotic nature, bebop juxtaposed the
strong dance elements of its counterpart swing (CITE NEEDED), which was synonomous with the "Lindy Hop" and
"Jitterbug" dance crazes. Bebop also countered swing with its nature being very street-wise or
cool (CITE NEEDED). Performers would breeze through the intencity in a nonchalant fashion, opposing the
perceptions such a hectic style had piqued. Bebop remains an integral part of music history, its
developments in harmony and improvisation had evolved music beyond any of it's previous
understandings (CITE NEEDED), bebop's impact on jazz had re-written many of it's rules setting a new standard of prowess
and skill. Musicians were approaching well known formulas with fresh and abstract ideas (CITE NEEDED), inspiring
a reknewed way of thinking in regard to theoretical analysis and approaches to performance and
improvisation.

During the early years of the 1930's, some major changes were taking place in the music world. The
1929 depression had plumetted economy (CITE NEEDED), affecting swinging big-bands leaving many
of them with little-to-no work. A lack of money within society had impacted heavily on bands with a
big personnel. Large costs were involved in providing food, accomodation and transport for big bands (CITE NEEDED),
and over time demand was not as common. The role of vocalist was becoming more
