Robert Clark “Bob” Seger was born May 6 1945 at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. When he was 10 years old, his father left the family, moving California. Bob attended Tappan Middle School and Ann Arbor High School until he graduated in 1963. He ran track and field in high school, and was viewed by some as one of the best runners in Michigan.
Bob Seger stated that "Little Richard was the first one that really got to me. Little Richard and, of course, Elvis Presley." according to www.segerfile.com., Seger also named Van Morrison as being one of his influences and covered one of his lesser known songs "I’ve Been Working" on his live album ‘Live Bullet’. Seger remarked: "There's a whole little clique of male vocalists. We're just sort of all connected. I think every last one of us has a connection with Van Morrison."
Seger began his musical career in 1961 in Detroit as a member of The Decibels, later playing with The Town Cryers and then Doug Brown and the Omens. He released his first single with Doug Brown and the Omens in 1965 for the local Hideout Record label. In 1966 Seger left Brown's group. Seger had his first big Detroit hit with "East Side Story", which sold 50,000 copies. In 1968, Bob Seger signed with major label Capital Records.
In 1974 Seger formed the Silver Bullet Band. Its original members were: guitarist Drew Abbott, drummer and backup-singer Charlie Allen Martin, keyboard-player Rick Mannassa, bass guitarist Chris Campbell, and saxophone player Alto Reed.
In 1975 Seger released the album “Beautiful Loser”, with help from the Silver Bullet Band. In April 1976 he and the Silver Bullet Band had an even bigger commercial breakthrough with the album “Live Bullet”, The album stayed on the Billboard charts for 168 weeks, peaking at #34 which was Seger’s highest charting album at the time.
