For my job search, I went to http://www.careerbuilder.com/JobSeeker/Jobs/JobDetails.aspx?IPath=QHKCV&ff=21&APath=2.21.0.0.0&job_did=J3H4286MX8C6P34RPBY . I thought about using the terms accountant, accounting, CPA, senior accountant, and bookkeeping when getting ready to do my job search, but decided on using accountant. After using the term accountant the site brought up several different jobs in the accounting field. Several options were posted on the top of the site for specific careers. I decided to narrow my search from nationwide to the state of Iowa, since it is most likely that I will stay in the area after graduation.
The positions that I found had general qualifications listed, as well as a brief job description, primary job duties and responsibilities, and minimum job requirements (education, experience, ect). At first I was disappointed because it seemed that all of the jobs I found seemed to require at least a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After further research I found entry level positions that accepted a two year accounting degree. These entry level positions were found with another refined search.
The job description for the Associate Tax Accountant position stated the following: The Associate Tax Accountant prepares and files monthly sales and will use tax returns and the tax reporting of fringe benefits, lobbying, meals and entertainment. This position manages fixed asset records and unclaimed property reporting. The website also listed specific knowledge needed to qualify for this job.
They are as follows: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word a minimum; Access a plus). Knowledge of Oracle a plus.
Experience in any of the areas of sales & use tax; fringe benefit tax reporting; fixed asset accounting and unclaimed property reporting preferred.
Must possess attention to detail with ability to meet deadlines....
