ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. ADHD used to be known as attention deficit disorder, or ADD. In 1994, it was renamed ADHD. The term ADD is sometimes still used, though, to explain a type of ADHD that doesn't entail hyperactivity. The main characteristics of ADHD are hyperactivity, lack of concentration, and impulsivity. These symptoms become noticeable early on in a child’s life, if the parents or adults around the child are responsible. Because a lot of normal children may possess these symptoms, but at a lower level, or the symptoms may be caused by another disorder, it is significant that the child receives a comprehensive examination and proper diagnosis by a well-qualified expert or psychiatrist.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition that becomes noticeable in some children in preschool and early school years. It is difficult for these children to control their behavior and pay attention. ADHD is a medical condition that affects how well someone can sit still, focus, and pay attention. People with ADHD have differences from normal people in the parts of their brains that control attention and activity. This means that the child may have trouble focusing on certain tasks and subjects, or they may seem "wired”, act impulsively, and get into trouble a lot. Symptoms of ADHD include feeling restless, often fidgeting with hands or feet, squirming while seated, running, climbing, or leaving a seat in situations where sitting or quiet behavior is expected, yelling out answers before hearing the whole question, having difficulty waiting in line or taking turns, talking excessively, and is easily distracted even when something is fun or important.
