A dilemma——death or dying
What do you know about euthanasia? Maybe it is a kind of way that patients choose to leave the world. Maybe it is a kind of way doctors provide to end the suffering the patients are subjected to. Or maybe it is just an excuse for killing. Anyway, euthanasia refers to the painless killing of people who are very ill or very old in order to stop them suffering. Or we can put it another way, euthanasia means the voluntary death of those kind of patients who can be prescribed medicine to end their lives.
Supposing when a patient who is critically ill at the very moment and unable to walk, speak or even can not afford to eat by themselves. If there are two options presented to that patient. One is keeping on suffering the misery of grave illness, while the other is being prescribed lethal medicine so that the patient can pass away peacefully and painlessly. Under such circumstance, the dilemma about healing and killing, death and dying begin to trap the patient. Which one would he prefer to? Assisted suicide or torment?
With unprecedented advances in medical technology, a debate over whether a person on life has the right to choose euthanasia. On one side of the debate are those people who harbor the idea that the patients can make their own decisions about death. If they have an intention of leaving the world, they can be practiced euthanasia with doctors’ help. Undoubtedly those people are in favor of euthanasia. Their opinion focus on three problems: should a person make his own decision between life and death? Should a person be performed mercy killing on himself when he suffers so much from the terminal ill? Should a person be allowed to be prescribed medicine by the doctor when the patient himself thinks the quality of life is diminished by the torment of unbearable illness?
