The magazine article I chose was “A Day in the Life of a LAN (Local Area Networks) Administrator. In the article it explained the everyday things that LAN administrator may have to go through in a day. According to the article “most effective network administrators have the capacity to deal with ambiguity, a constantly changing landscape of problems, and are quick studies when acquiring new knowledge in the midst of continuing change and crises” (Marks & Nielsen., 1992,). The article also states that, “the network administrator leads a harried existence while being pulled in many directions
Marks and Nielsen. (1992) In order to show the complexity of the network administrators role, the article states that writers chose two different days separated by two months as representative for the purposes of this article. Some of the activities performed on these two days were; software acquisition, hardware acquisition, software installation, hardware installation, software maintenance/fix, hardware maintenance/fix and CD-ROM networking. These categories are not exhaustive but they are representative of the wide range of activities that any network administrator must be prepared to handle. “While the technical skills, and the understanding of the network administrator is the focus in the hiring process, the capacity of and individual to be an effective teacher may be the most under-rated skill.” (Marks & Nielsen., 1992,).
