INTRODUCTION
The Author of the book Effective Invitation: A practical Guide For the Pastor, is man named Allan Streett. Alan Streett is professor of evangelism/pastoral ministry at Criswell College, Dallas, Texas and editor of the Criswell Theological Review. This volume began as his Ph.D. dissertation at California Graduate School of Theology. He revised it for Revell twenty years before the present edition. Before he came to Criswell College, Dr. Streett served ten years as a pastor. There he preached verse by verse through Bible books. This may be an important clue to why he believes every sermon should have an appendix with a new text appropriate to a call to repentance and faith in Christ.
This student must begin this review by stating that this book was extremely helpful in many ways and one would recommend this book to anyone who is the pastorate or is currently studying for the pastorate. Although there are several strengths and weaknesses as with any publication other than the Bible, and this student would like to point several different points of interest for debate and discussion. This student will not be ashamed to say that one will be as fair as possible in writing this review, however this preacher is a reformed Baptist but there are several areas that one can agree with Dr. Streett and of course there are also several areas that one cannot.
Streett begins his book by giving several examples of terms such as evangelism and preaching and he gives good definitions of these terms. In the Second chapter the author begins to be specific about the public invitation and its content and how it relates to repentance and faith.
