A terrible misunderstanding

They entered the store. Sara looked in amazement at the twenty foot tall white Christmas tree. She was admiring the decorations. Green, red, orange, yellow, and every color you could imagine. Though, it seemed weird to her that there were no black decorations. Still looking at the tree she asked his fiancé, "Tom, why do you think they don't have black decorations?" Tom looked at her with a dumbfounded expression. "Um, Sara...Let's think. Christmas is about joy and love, which means, "FUN" colors, and with that he turned his attention back to the items in the store. Sara shook her head remaining herself once again that not everyone had her same view on whats joyous and fun.

She sighed and followed Tom deeper into the store. They were doing some last minute shopping for the grand annual Christmas celebration. Saras family always made a huge fuss over Christmas throwing one fabulous party every year. It was one occasion almost everyone in town looked forward too. It was a night of singing and dancing and basking in the Christmas spirit with the ones who were closest to your heart.

Snapping back to reality Sara noticed she had lost sight of Tom. Quickly scanning the shop she found him at the counter throwing one of his charming smiles at a petite red-headed girl. She knew what a friendly person he was but she couldnt help but feel the cold stab of jealousy. Making her way towards him she cupped her arm in his and led him out of the shop. After coming up with the lame excuse of needing some air Tom decided no to press the issue but instead told her to meet up later as he still needed to buy one last gift. Instead of complaining about his secrecy Sara smiled contently as she knew exactly whom the gift was for.

The hours passed quickly but Tm hadnt shown up anywhere. Tired of waiting she decided to go look for him. It wasnt long till she spotted his bright red overcoat but her mile quickly faded as she saw him with a girl. The same girl they had seen the store earlier and to her surprise they were holding hands and then he put his arm around her. Sara didn't know what to do. She wanted to cry, to run and hide away from the world. Sara thought of when she had heard him say that she was his one and only but that meant nothing now. She couldn't stop the tears from streaming down her face. Running back to her loft she slammed the door shut and slouched to the floor as the feeling of pain and betrayal washed over her.

Must to Toms amazement it wasnt a long drive to the hotel. He was bustling with excitement and curiousity ever since he had read Saras note. She had told him to meet him in the hotels garden by the giant Christmas tree in the center before the festivities began. He wondered what the surprise was and clenched his own gift even tighter. As he made his way to the gardens he noticed something was wrong. The gardens center was full of people and to his horror, police. Running to through the crowd he stopped dead in his tracks as he saw the tragic sight. The once marvelous, colourful Christmas tree was painted black but what pained him the most was seeing the lifeless, pale body of his fiancé dangling from it. Overpowered by emotion, he cried freely as slowly touched her cold skin. Unable to stand sight any longer he looked to the floor and through bleary eyes he noticed a piece of paper. Picking it up he read, "Dear Tom,Remember you told me that Christmas couldn't have a black color? Well, my Christmas does. You told me I was your only one......but that wasn't true. She was there too.....wasn't she? I wasn't the only one. I hope you two enjoy yourselves, and your Christmas together. I loved you. MERRY BLACK CHRISTMAS!Sara"Clenching his fist in frustration he yelled to his dead loved one, "I loved you only Sara! She wasn't anything, anything at all. She merely grabbed my hand as she tripped and I held her so she wouldnt fall. See! She was nothing" His voice trailed off. He looked at his hand and placed his gift by her feet.
