A Journey By Train
A Journey By Train(Monday)
Life is a continuous journey. Journey is a source of pleasure. Some journeys are short and some long. They are sweet and pleasant. A journey by train is an interesting experience. During the last winter/ summer vacation, I went to Puri with my family members. We reached Howrah Station at about 7 p.m. to catch the Jagannath Express.
A railway platform is a world in itself. At the platform, there was a big crowd. Groups of people, sitting around with their belongings, talked and laughed among themselves. People rush here and there. Some check up time of arrival or of departure of the trains. Hawkers were crying out with shrill voice to vend their goods.
I bought an interesting story book and a comic book from the railway book stall. As soon as the train was put on the platform, we scrambled into our coach to get to our seats. As the train left the platform, we settled down to our seats and the train caught up speed. I was getting excited when I was carrying away from my native place. I felt thrilled at that moment and I enjoyed the jerky movement.. I forgot everything of the world and only looked outside through the window. At night, it was dark outside. The platform was lit up with lights. Our first halt was at Kharagpur. In our compartment, there were two children almost my age. I played UNO cards with them. They were also going to Puri with their grandparents. They were very jovial. They made us laugh with their jokes and mimicry of certain celebrities. An oldman in our compartment was singing songs. Then I was having my supper. The Swing and the sound of the moving train soon lulled me to sleep. Next morning, I woke up by the sound of vendors and started enjoying the beauties of hills and hillocks of Orissa. I saw the farmers working in the fields. I saw the green paddy fields, groves and forests from the window of the running train. Trees and houses seemed to run behind. Some children stared at the train. The train halted at

Throughout the generations America has transformed and evolved drastically to become the nation it is today. Many can argue that several things have happened in America that are what shaped it to the country it is today industrially, socially and economically. A man by the name of Charles brace had a dream of getting underprivileged children off the streets and gave them the tools and opportunities to live great normal lives. Between 1854- 1929 an estimated 200,000 American children, some orphaned or half-orphaned, others abandoned- but all in need of families- traveled west by rail as part of a “placing out” program started by Charles, called the Children’s Aid Society.(Warren, 4) This dream exploded around the U.S into what is now known as The Orphan Train Movement; a movement that sparked opportunity and new life for underprivileged children.…

“The Tube Train,” by Cyril E. Power is a color linocut painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. As the title suggest it’s a painting of the inside of a train filled with elegant people from the early 1900’s. The first thing that caught my eye when looking at this painting was the vantage point in the front of the train, which the artist used to illustrate the view of the train as if you are sitting in the back looking forward. The feeling of space was also established by the position of the passengers with in the train and the use of vanishing point line perspective where all lines are pointing towards the front of the train in a diagonal recession which makes…

I watched the train conductor appear at the head of the car. "Tickets, all tickets, please!" In a more virile age, I thought the passengers would seize the conductor and strap him down on a seat over the radiator to share the fate of his patrons. He shuffled down the aisle, picking up tickets, punching commutation cards. No one addressed a word to him. He approached my seat, and I drew a deep breath of resolution. "conductor," I began with a considerable edge to my voice.... Instantly the doleful eyes of my seatmate turned tiredly from his newspaper to fix me with a resentful stare: what question could be so important as to justify my sibilant intrusion into his stupor? I was shaken by those eyes. I am incapable of making a discreet fuss, so I mumbled a question about what time we were due in Stamford (I didn't even ask whether it would be before or after dehydration could be expected to set in), got my reply, and went back to my newspaper and to wiping my brow.…

    Journeys in the Road

Journey is a prevalent theme choice for many writers, due to the potential to be manipulated in many forms. The alarmingly realistic novel of ‘The Road' contains journeys both physical and emotional as McCarthy utilises his literacy excellence to deviate away from the journey stereotypes involving clear aim and direction, focusing more on the motivation and meaning behind the journey. Conversely in Thomas Hardy’s 1913 poem collection, physical and mental journeys are explored as Hardy nostalgically returns to poignant points from his relationship with Emma in an attempt to console himself of her sudden death. Through Hardy’s journeys we feel his guilt as he blames himself for neglecting Emma during her deterioration. A similar emotion is achieved by Ian McEwan’s in his novel ‘Atonement’. The protagonist Briony tells her story through her journey of atonement as she spends the duration of the novel suffering for a mistake she made in her youth.…

On the first day of November, I went on a learning journey with the primary four classes. I went to school but it was not a normal school day. I sat at the parade square waiting for students to arrive in the early morning. I was so engrossed in my conversation with my classmates about going to East Coast Park for a camping trip. We were really happy that we were going to stay at the campsite for one whole week! A few minutes later, the bus arrived. Soon, we left the parade square and boarded the bus. In the bus, we were so excited that our hearts were thumping with excitement. Everyone was seated in the bus. The engine started and the bus drove off. We were all feeling jolly. Everyone was talking to their friends so the bus was noisy.…
