Why Islam Spread so Quickly
Islam spread so successfully because the Byzantine and Persian empires were weak and tired, so this made it easier for Muslims to conquer them. From Arabia, Islam spread northwards towards Persia and Baghdad in 640AD. In the east they overpowered Samarkand in 676AD and the Borders of India in 707AD. Towards the west Islam expanded into Morocco and Spain in 708AD.

Simple but effective military tactics helped spread Islam because they were easy and not too complicated for the Muslims to carry out but hard for the enemy to defend. The Muslims tactics were to charge the enemy and cast a shower of javelins. They would repeat this until the enemy showed signs of breaking and then started hand to hand combat. They were usually outnumbered and the superiority of their enemies should have been overwhelming however, it wasn't and the Muslims rarely lost.

Other religions (Jews, Christians and Pagons) being attracted to Islam would help the Islamic faith to expand more quickly because people were more willing to accept it. They were willing to accept the new faith because they hated their rulers and wanted a change from high taxes and religious persecution.

The neighboring Byzantine and Persian empires were weak is a main point because the Muslims could defeat them more easily, as they had been fighting each other for a long time and by the time they faced the Muslims both empires were exhausted by war.

‘Berbers’ who were a North African tribe became Muslims helped to strengthen the Muslim’s army and as the tribe was a fierce fighting tribe it would scare and frighten opponents away, thus making it easier for Islam to spread.

In my opinion the most important factor of Islam’s expansion was that other religions were attracted to follow Islam. Many people whose countries had been taken over by Byzantine and Persian empires hated their rulers and welcomed the Muslim invaders for freeing them. Islam gave them knowledge and education; as Islam was the newest

The Muslim empire went through great expansion. I think the major key to the Islamic expansion was their military. They conquered lots such as the Greeks. They conquered all who rebelled against them. One way military helped with Islamic expansion is by conquering others around the world and teaching them of the Islamic religion. By conquering others this expanded and increased the Muslim empire and population. According to Document A “The battle they fought at al-Yarmuk was of the fiercest and bloodiest kind. In this battle 24,000 Muslims took part”. This is an example of how military helped Islamic expansion. Another way the military helped Islamic expansion was according to Document C “ Individuals were required to embrace…

Military conquest was one of the primary reasons why Islam spread so quickly. The Document C “Spread of Islam” map shows that between 622 and 750, the Islamic world expanded to Saragossa in the north and as far as Kabul to the east. On the map, there are arrows traveling in many directions. These arrows represent military campaigns. It seems that wherever these arrows go, the land is almost always converted into Islamic territory, therefore, the army’s operations prove to be successful. The significant amount of land claimed shows that the Islamic troops are a force to be reckoned with. According to the Document F al-Baladhuri excerpt, “Hereclius gathered [a] large Byzantine army … numbering about 200,000...By Allah’s help, some 70,000 of them…

Some could say that what contributed to the rapid spread of Islam are their Muslim leader and his god Allah. Socially Muhammad contributed by spreading his visions and new religious beliefs. As he became more known people started to accept his beliefs and visions. Which would later help build an army for the Islamic people to fight for the name of Allah. This also didn’t help either though as he began to gain enemies who weren’t very fond of beliefs. Thus leading him to leaving to go to Medina known as the hijra. Were he ultimately becomes the leader of Medina were the people are more of a receptive audience and this is where his followers becomes very populated. Politically Islam had the upper hand, Byzantine and Persia having been exhausted by the protracted conflicts made them both vulnerable. As Muhammad taken over lands from Byzantine and Persia he began to take in more people, growing his army, society, and religious beliefs.…

The question I have been asked to answer is, Why is Islam spread so quickly? The reason why I believe makes Islam spread so quickly is because of travel, the conquering or overtaking of cites or civilization, and the last reason is trade. Let me just start off by saying that the Islamic religion is monotheistic, which means they only truly believed in one god. The god that the Islamic people believed in was Allah. So first of I'm going to start out with, why travel made the Islam religion spread quickly. While going on ships transporting goods or moving to a new place, the people would often share with or teach others their religion. So when the people aboard the boat who knew or had heard about the religion had a chance to either change or…

Islam is shown to spread quickly because of the Muslim’s respect toward other people’s religion. J.J. Sounders (Doc # 5) states, “ Mohammed respected the older monotheistic faiths… he called them “People of the Book”… they were not forced into Islam but were allowed to retain their ancestral religion on payment of tribute.” J.J. Sounders states that Mohammed respected other religions, which, in turn, allowed the Islamic civilization to grow. J.J. Sounders also states that Mohammed allowed other people to keep their faith by paying a tribute; this also shows respect toward other religions by the Muslims. Mohammed himself asks other people that are not of the Islamic belief to pay tribute and be spared (Doc #1). Mohammed respects other beliefs by giving the non-Islamic people options which included an option to just pay a tribute instead of attacking them without warning just because they were of another belief.…
