Why Is Abraham Lincoln The Best President
Over the past centuries America has dealt with many different leaders that we call presidents. When classifying our presidents, each show characteristics of leadership, honesty, connectivity,persistence, and intelligence. Some presidents show these traits more than others. Though topic is highly debated, the best representation of those traits were shown in our 16th president Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln portrayed those traits in many ways causing him to make a great impact on the country resulting in him being the best president of America.

Honesty is another strong characteristic that makes up a good president. Abraham Lincoln was known to be so honest he was given the nickname honest Abe. Many people know that fact but many do not know why. Before he was elected president is when Lincoln earned the nickname; he was working as a store clerk and if he ever shorthanded a customer he would close shop and walk however far no matter what to deliver the right change(Burlingame 1). This later led to people "[recognizing] his integrity and [people] were soon asking him to act as a judge or a mediator in various contests, fights, and arguments"(Burlingame 1). This is a good characteristic as president because it gains trust for the people supporting and to Lincoln that was important. He used his honesty throughout his term, he used it when explaining to his commanders and also when dealing with politics. When choosing a president, most people choose someone who is very intelligent since they will be dealing with other countries and the government. Abraham Lincoln was " deeply introspective, read widely, and completely self taught"(Herbold 1). These traits not only show that he is intelligent but also show hat he is dedicated and that learning was important to him. Teaching yourself certain skills are not easy and especially take time. He was willing to put in the time which shows how dedicated he is which also feed in to why he was such a good leader. Lincoln was not only intelligent through books but also emotionally. Lincoln "excelled at keeping his visions 'in constant focus'. he set aside ego and personal ambition to work toward the goals he envisioned"(bolluyt 1). This shows he was also intelligent when it came to emotions which is strong characteristic that many people do not hold. Lincoln was able to decide what was important and what had to be done so he could achieve his goals. That shows intelligence because most would not want a leader who puts personal ambition over the countries priorities, by being able to put aside his personal ambition to achieve other goals shows how strong minded Lincoln was. Abraham Lincoln showed his intelligence strongly throughout his term showing why he is the best American

    Throughout his presidency, his follower were able to see president Lincoln's leadership through his vision on the field and presidential choices.
