Why Did I Choose Sparta
Sparta and Athens, two famous greek city-states in the ancient world have various similarities and differences according to their culture, government, education, political structure and more. However, if I was a wealthy woman and I had to choose one between the two I would choose to live in Sparta, because they would value me more than people in Athens would.
The first reason why I would prefer Sparta is because of their education system. In Sparta I would be trained from a young age in arts and athletics, I would have a strong body and I would be able to learn various things related with art and other topics. Besides this, not only my family but the government would encouraged my to develope my intellect. In the other hand, if I lived in Athens I would be educated just on how to raise my future children, and for this reason I won’t have the opportunity to know or investigate more topics beyond what is taught about family.
The second reason why I would chose Sparta is because of their culture. In Sparta, women owned more that the third part of their inherited land and when their husband was not home, they were able to took important decision according to the …show more content…
As seen before, women and children had “benefits” on the Spartan culture because they were allowed to have education and they were challenged intellectually. Women specifically were in charge of raising children until they were seven years old, and taking care of almost evrything outside of the army. Their husbands were rarely at home, but were always aware of what was happening in their home. In addition, the age difference between them two was little compared to the Anthenian traditions. In the other side, in Athens women and children were extremely excluded in society, most of the time they were kept in the “Oriental Seclusion” room which was a specific place in their home where contact with anyone was not
