The Strange Ride Home

Traumatic events come in many different ways at many different times of ones life. Mine came on the school bus while I was on my way home from school. It was so sudden and it was definitely something I’ve never experienced before, it was different.

The bus had stopped to let a couple kids off and I stood up to throw some trash away. I stood up and we were rear ended by a young lady who had been trying to get a bee out of the car and not realized the bus had stopped. I was standing up and the impact caused me to bang back and forth into the seat in front and the one behind me. I didn’t realize what had happened until moments later when someone said something. As I began to sit down I felt a sharp pain shoot through my body and my heart started to beat rapidly.

“Is everyone okay?” the bus driver interrogated.

The young lady stepped out of her car and ran inside the bus, “Oh my goodness! I am so sorry I didn’t really mean to hit the back of the bus! I wasn’t paying attention, this is all my fault...” She continued rambling.

“Everyone is fine, we are just shocked,” replied a brave little girl.

The accident made me realize that nothing is for certain and you shouldn’t take anything for granted. I had always viewed riding a school bus has something that wouldn’t put me in danger, after all the drivers are trained professionals, right? What I never considered was the actions of others and how complete strangers can change your life in a bigger and more significant way than some of the people closest to you. I had never really considered dying at a young age because my grandparents lived to be old. After that bus ride home my outlook on life was severely changed and I started to appreciate my parents more an tell them I loved them a lot more often because wasn’t sure if we’d both be around to say it the next time.

The car accident will always be a major moment in my life because of what it showed me. That accident gave me visual

The sky was nice and clear. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was perfect. It was a typical third grade day. My friends and I were in recess, goofing around, having fun. We sat on the benches and joked around. Next thing I knew my friend was on my back and I was carrying him around. Not aware of my surroundings, I tripped over a bench, closed my eyes, braced for impact, and fell face first into the dirt. I got up feeling dazed and the first thing I hear is a scream. Confused, I looked over to my friend and her face was a mixture of scared and shocked. I saw friends run to the restroom to get me paper towels, but others told me to go to the office. As I walked to the office, I began to feel pain in my lip. I walked into the office speechless.…

The Ride is the story of the heinous and gruesome murder of ten year old, Jeffrey Curley, a case that is familiar to many in the Massachusetts area. The book works its way from the grisly crime to the years afterward. It focuses on the family of Jeffrey, heavily weighted on the life of Cambridge Firefighter Bob Curley, Jeffrey’s father. Charles Jaynes and Salvatore Sicari, both from Jeffrey’s neighborhood were convicted of the murder. Within this essay I will demonstrate from The Ride the relationship between reporting and suffering that may have been brought on for the crime victims of this case, the relationship between the victim profiles and the victim family profiles, the role in which the family may have played in the crime, relationships that developed between the victim and the victim’s families of this event and how the Restorative Justice Model would have better served the victims of this crime.…

We were already near Mission Avenue, and the car in front of the car in front of us jammed their brakes which made the car in front of us take the only safe spot on the freeway, in front of us. The car started smoking profusely. After the girls got out of the car everyone began to panic. I thought to myself, Why is everyone panicking? I noticed Candice crying and yelling, its not moving , she was talking about her baby i also noticed some one was missing.
