The novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky, is a first person diary, or letter, of a 15 year old boy named Charlie. Throughout the novel, Charlie writes letters discussing major life events including all the ups and mostly downs, that are occurring in his life. Charlie has gone through a lot of stressful and traumatic situations in his life up to his sophomore year of high school. Despite living through a roller coaster of emotions and events, there are certain treatments that can be provided to ensure that Charlie gets all the help he needs in order to increase his educational performance as well as receiving help outside of school. In the beginning of Charlie’s letter, the way he describes the relationship between him and his aunt was very loving and sweet. In that, she loved him dearly and was the only to every separate his birthday from christmas since it was the 24th of December, which meant a lot to him, but also, she gave him hugs as well as tons of books to read which he really enjoyed (Chbosky, 1999). His aunt lived with Charlie and his family for the last few years of her life, until a tragic car accident one night on her way to the store to buy Charlie a birthday gift. Upon the family finding out about her instant death in the car accident, Charlie could not help but to blame his aunt’s death on himself. However, as the story continues, it is soon discovered that the relationship between him and his aunt has caused intimacy problems with a girl he fell in love with. Since all his other teachers except english, were having a problem with Charlie, in that he seems to always be spaced out, or not paying much attention, but when they pull his attention back to the lecture, he will constantly overthink every little item discussed in class triggering an emotional breakdown from time to time. After the concerns have been brought up to the school psychologist, the next step would be to conduct a naturalistic observation, in which, the behaviors are recorded and observed in a natural setting (Calisi, 2017). Upon recording the frequency, or how often the behaviors occur (lack of attention or emotional breakdowns), the next step would be to conduct a functional behavioral assessment (FBA). Under the first step of conducting the FBA, I would need to identify the behaviors that are occurring in class, such as using the natural observation and other tools such as the parent and self reporting questionnaires to see if the family or student himself will share any possibly information that will aid in seeing why the child is behaving this way. After collecting the baseline data, the data would then be evaluated using the ABC chart. The ABC chart looks at the antecedent, or what occurs prior to the behavior, then the behavior itself, following the consequences toward the student

    In "The Perks..." there are a variety of personalities portrayed through the book. Charlie being the "wallflower" of the title, was different from most of the other students at his high school. He understood what most didn 't and didn 't judge anyone for who they are or what they were like; on the contrary, he actually thought about and sometimes asked why they decided to be that way, and there was nothing more to it. Through out the book, entirely composed of letters to an unnamed "friend", he explains how he met eccentric people, like Sam and her step-brother Patrick; two kids a few years older than the at the time freshman Charlie. Sam was Charlie 's first love in the story, he described her as having "unconditional beauty". Patrick was probably Charlie 's best friend. Patrick was first introduced as a strange boy he knew about nicknamed "Nothing", a name he got after other students taunted him and he told them that if they couldn 't call him Patrick they could call them nothing, and it sort of stuck from there. In Charlie 's letters, his siblings, older brother and sister whom he never calls by their name- just "my brother" or "my sister ', appear in certain scenes.
