THE PERFECT DATE What exactly is a perfect date? It can be as simple as a candlelight dinner or as outgoing as a trip to an amusement park. Some dates last a few hours while some are all day long. My perfect date would last all day with my significant other of 10 months!
As we drive along I-73 to Myrtle Beach in his sleek black Nissan Altima, we blast our favorite rap and R&B songs with the windows down. We approach the beach about 2 hours later and park at the first spot we see. The ocean washing up against the shore is the first thing we hear. The wind is blowing through my hair and the sun lights up his big hazel eyes.
We get out the car and walk out onto the beach to find a nice cool spot to set up our blanket. The soft white sand went in between my toes as I spot the little seashells. We set up our blanket in a cool comfortable spot then put our feet in the cold seaweed infested water. We splash each other and kiss in the sunlight. Finally around 7 pm, we settle on our blanket and watch the big orange sun set among the horizon and reflect in the ocean in each other’s arms.
At 8 pm, we go out to eat. We drive down the long strip of tourists attractions and find a restaurant that fits both of our hunger needs: Outback Steakhouse. We park in front of the crowded building. We stand in the long line to get a seat. Soon, we reach our table and order our delicious food. He orders a big sirloin steak while I order a nice juicy burger. After enjoying our dinner, we decide we want dessert. We don’t want just any dessert so we go to dairy queen, home of the best ice cream ever! As we go back to our car and onto the strip of many stores and shops, we spot the big DQ down the street. He gets excited and speeds into the parking lot. We order our favorite desserts: an oreo milkshake and chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone with sprinkles. We go back in the car and enjoy our frozen treats.
As we ponder on what we should do next, we remembered

It was nearly sunset and I was relaxing along the soothing beach in Capitola, California. My brother and sister were assembling sand and shells to make a colossal sand city while my parents were in two chairs chatting. As I was ambling down the oceanfront my feet would feel the chilly waves and I could sense the gentle wind blowing my way. I was reminiscing about the exciting activities previously that day, including swimming through the waves, body surfing, and passing around a volleyball with my brother.…

Across from me was a handsome, dark haired man, broad-shouldered holding a Les Paul classic custom guitar playing melodious songs while I lay on a nice big red beach chair. In my hand was a big glass of iced tea shimmering in the bright sun as I took a sip it cooled the inside of my throat causing me to keep my cool temperature in the hot summer. It was the perfect day to be out, with the sun casting just the right amount of shine to give me that perfect sun-kissed tan. I was lying on a beautiful red chair with my legs sprung up in a gorgeous white cotton maxi dress. As, I got up and started to walk towards the ocean I could hear the waves up ahead. I took my shoes off and set foot on the hot, white sand. I could feel the sand going through in between my toes from every step I took. As I stroll along the edge of the beach I feel free of worries and stress, I am just enjoying the holidays, no school, or work just free time. In the middle of the ocean were many surfers in yellow shorts riding in the various color surfboards. They were going so fast doing so many tricks…

One very long month later, everyone's bags were packed and we was off to Tennessee! After five lengthy hours and passing through a time zone, I spotted the breathtaking view of Nashville. As we entered our hotels parking lot, I got out of the car and stared in awe of all the bright colorful lights and building against the dark night sky. It was stunning. My family and I walked into the hotel to be greeted by a welcoming smile from the lady behind the desk. We got our room keys and went to out room. It was decorated with pictures of guitars and a warm welcoming goldish yellow wallpaper. Although it was already nine o'clock, our night had just began.…

As we walked inside the restaurant you could hear the bells and the water fountains, they had full of koi fish it was amazing. As soon as we got to our hotel room, I rushed to put on my swimsuit to go to the beach before the sun fully set. The hotel room looked like I had been there for a month, with clothes scattered over the marbled tiles in our hotel bathroom. The soft sand between my toes felt like fuzzy socks as I ran to meet the ocean’s tide. The foaming water washed away the sand as well as the stress I had accumulated at the airport. My worries about not having my parents with me and being in a new place fled as I watched the sun set behind the tall…

So many emotions and thoughts flustered around in my head. Shock, consternation, anguish, heartache, and several other feelings built up in my chest that I could barely get a word out. Time slowed down as she haltingly took her steps out the door. During those scarce and limited seconds, memories of our summer together came flowing back up from the hollow depths of my brain. We both enjoyed continuous days on Makaha Beach at our vacation rental for three full months. Neither of us had made any friends yet and we only had each other. One night that carved its way into my long term memory and reappeared into my thoughts at this particular moment, was the evening we spent gazing at the stars. It was only us, no other surfers or spectators or boys could touch us, it was just me and Kaitlyn and the sky. We spent a lengthy amount of time searching for shooting stars and admiring the clearest night sky that either of us had ever seen. To make it even more perfect, we had the sound of the crashing waves and the soft, cold sand in between our toes. The smell of the salty water and the harmonious sounds of the ocean blended with the blue canvas and sparkly lights, creating one of the best memories of my time in Hawaii. My conscious evoked that vision as her hand turned the stridulous doorknob of our…

For just a little over a century now, the date has been a vehicle for creating lifetime lovers. A date could be defined as two people getting together for an activity when the possibility of romance between them has been broached but not ruled out. Dating took rise with the rise of the automobile. This allowed for young courting couples to experience new things together- away from the eyes of their parents and outside of the home. Dating soon replaced courtship, and became the main path to finding love. Throughout the twentieth and early twenty-first century, groundbreaking events like the feminist movements of the 1960-70s, the legalization of the birth control pill, 1973’s Roe v. Wade, and more recently with the 2016 election year- having the first female candidate nominated in a major party to run for president, have all shaped American society toward a more equal, empowering, and uplifting place for women (CITATION FOR DECLINE OF THE DATE). These infact have also changed the dating world, especially in college. The thought of students graduating with a degree AND a significant other…
